Borobudur, Central Java

Borobudur is a Buddhist temple.

In Java kingdoms were fighting each other.

But Hinduism and Buddhism lived side by side.

A lion on which Buddha flew to the heavens.

Java elephant is distinctly different from Bali.

This is how Anggi grandmother house used to look like.

They used to make Buddha statues here everywhere.

All this is getting lost now. Muslims have taken over and crafts are all but disappear. 

Our hotel. Use of hand made tiles is very popular on Java.

Because od rain season we got a lot of rain.

Which can get very heavy at times.

But I like this weather. It is not as hot.

And it makes me feel like being in Europe in winter time. Dark and wet.
