Motorcycle, house & crocodile

We bought Honda “beat street” 110cc, 9hp, 60km / liter  or 1.7l / 100km (officially) 111 km/h max speed (officially), automatic. 96kg Cost of gasoline here is 50 cents per liter. 100km costs me about 1 euro…

My first brand new vehicle I own. 1250 euros. Average age of cars I drove was 20 years old, I never spent more then 1500 euros on a car. but here second hand market is not very big or affordable. We could get a 10 years old motorcycle for half the price: not a good deal in my opinion, it is pass half of its better years. Quarter price for 10 years old and half for 2 to 5 years old is what I consider a good deal.

We wanted to buy Honda “scoopy” a very popular model here. But demand is so high we would wait 3 months for it. This one is 300 euros cheaper, same machine and it is “naked bike” design which I like a lot. I will add windshield though: as lame as it looks: getting air in my chest while it rains is no fun.

I have a proper motorcycle driver license in Europe. Made it when I was 16. I was driving 150cc Vespa for 6 years back then… my experience comes very handy here.

We got 65” tv. Samsung au8000… 800 euros. It is a “smart” tv, or should we say “smart ass” tv. It is definitely smarter then me and knows full well what I want: which is never what I actually want: but who am to argue against its superior intelligence?

We decided we need a stand for this TV. After almost getting ordinary furniture. We decided we will use the crocodile as a stand instead.

But then changed our minds.

He is our “pet” right now.

Using TV for work. Working on 65” is a good experience for me.

This is our future house. We added storage space, big windows, high ceiling… ah, swimming pool is off. The reason is: I got one potential job offer, which is in Denpasar. Too far to commute every day. In that case we rent, and this house becomes weekend retreat. Well, then pool becomes too much work: Cleaning water, changing filters… pool makes sense if you use all the time or empty it for long time…

…we will put bathtub or jacuzzi instead. The kind we can drain when not in use.

This is it: this is the location of our house. They will start with foundation one of these days. We just payed the first 40%, so they know our plan is a sure deal.

Soon, very soon…

Size of Bali compared to Slovenia. If Denpasar would have same location as Ljubljana, the volcanoes (red circles) would be where the Alps are. Our house is as far as “Visoko” near Kranj. Ubud is where “Kamniška bistrica” is.  Going from our house to Ubud takes long time because there is no good connection: kind of like going from Visoko to Kamniška bistrica.  What is north of volcanoes is as far in my mind as Austria is: I never even been on that side of Bali. Going to seaside from our house is 45 minutes. The distance from Visoko to Škofja loka. One advantage of our house over Ubud: we will not have traffic jams, because there is no festivals or tourists events there. It is a plus and minus…

Bali has 3x less Area then Slovenia and has 2.5x more people. 5 million Bali vs. 2 million Slovenia. This makes it 3x2.5= 7.5x denser. Most of its population is in Denpasar area which is much bigger city then Ljubljana. Ljubljana has 350.000 people. Denpasar strictly speaking has 800.000, but area around it has 2.400.000 people. South of Denpasar is half island about twice the size of “Ljubljansko barje”

West to Bali is Java, that one has the size of Italy. Only the leg of Italy, no boot or north Alp part. It is turned east west, not north south. It’s population is 150 million people, compared with Italy 60 million.

Indonesia has 20% of land area of Europe and 50% of its population. East to West dimension are comparable. From west Sumatra to east Papua it is like from Portugal to east of Moscow.
