Tropical heat, Probolinggo, East Java

Inside temperatures are between 29C in the morning and 33C in the evening
Moisture is between 65% and 80%  - All the time!

Probolinggo is particularly hot and humid. This kind of heat affects you. It is like a heat wave in Europe. It is like one of those days when you feel like: huh, nooo, i can not, i just can not... maybe tomorrow, this is too much! With one crucial difference: here it never ends! Not even at night. It is an eternal heat fog of the mind.

This is what my workspace looks like. A ray of light from the top and constant ventilator, that helps little because of too much moisture.

In Europe we like light, we can not get enough. Here they like the dark. The eyes are over saturated with brightness outside, darkness gives you an opportunity to rest your senses. This is coincidentally exactly how I imagined my place in the Tropics before going here: a dark room with a ray of light. We seem to be of the same mind.

This house has one 4A fuse: this is 900W of power maximum. This means: No Airconditioning!, No vacuum cleaner, No electric oven... They do have: refrigerator, ventilators, lights, and: water pump to pump water out of the ground: *Anggi reminded me: new law says minimum is 1300W, this is old house, this is why it can still have 900W

Taking a "shower" (pouring water over yourself) helps a little. For 5 minutes the clarity of mind is restored, but not for long. You turn on the pump few times a day to refill. Water is used to do all the tasks: flush the toilet as well. This works remarkably well, this toilet never smells. Any kind of visit to the toilet is accompanied with a quick shower, because: Why not get those 5 minutes of mental clarity and save on some toilet paper while you are at it.

The monthly cost of this house is 25 euro per month (only electricity) The drinking water is water filtered from the one that came from the ground. This is it. Done. No other costs beside food, which is also super cheap by our standards.

Camera equipment needs to be put in a dry box. Everything outside can grow mold. Clothes are kept in a closet, but there is some extremely smelly lavender used. huh... Lifespan of things largely depends on how resistant it is to molds and insects.
